Description

This in-person workshop on Resistance will be led by Eleanor Wylie, Physics Partners Coach and hosted by the Physics department at UEA.

In this session we are looking at the resistance required practical. We will be starting by exploring resistance using graphite pencil lines and consider how we can use this to help explain the concept and develop a qualitative understanding of how it is affected by length and thickness. We’ll look at how to scaffold a deep understanding of the VIR relationship. Then we’ll focus in on how to get accurate results without overheating in the resistance of a wire practical then move on to investigate combinations of resistors in series and parallel. This session will be hands-on with lots of opportunity to explore different ways to approach this experiment with classes in engaging and meaningful ways. Refreshments in the form of tea, coffee, cakes, fruit and soft drinks will be served from 4pm on the first-floor landing of the New Science Building at UEA, and the session will run 4.30 -6.00pm. We hope to see you there!

Please sign up so we can make sure there’s enough tea and coffee and cakes and biscuits!

This session is fully-funded and delivered by Physics Partners. This session forms part of the Norwich Physics Hub series of twilight sessions for physics teachers, particularly non-specialists, teacher trainees and early career teachers. Technicians are also welcome to attend.
