Accelerating Masses at UTC Portsmouth

The topic of this workshop is Accelerating Masses and it will be led by Jeremy Thomas and James Loosely at Portsmouth University.

In this session you will develop your understanding of Newton’s second law through demonstrations, qualitative reasoning and practical investigation. You will use trolleys, light gates and dataloggers to collect and graph data, calculate system mass, and examine friction and experimental error. You will also explore alternative methods, apparatus setup, differentiation, evaluation and opportunities to develop students’ Working Scientifically skills effectively.

This course is fully-funded and delivered as part of the Portsmouth Physics Hub series of sessions for physics teachers, particularly non-specialists and early career teachers.
