Description

This in-person workshop on Teaching Radioactivity, is led by David Bailey, Coach for Physics Partners and hosted by Ian Ramsey CE Academy, Stockton-on-Tees, TS19 7AJ

These sessions are for physics teachers, particularly non-specialists, early career teachers and teacher trainees. Technicians are also welcome to attend.

Teaching Radioactivity

In this session, we will consider how the topic of ionising radiation is taught. We will consider the role of modelling in helping pupils picture the abstract ideas in this topic. We will help build confidence in handling radioactive sources. (Please note that this is not the same as Radiation Protection Supervisor training).

Intended learning outcomes

  • Consider the how to teach ionising radiation

  • Consider how to use models to teach abstract ideas effectively

  • Consider safe handling of radioactive sources

  • Consider implications for practice

This CPD session is fully-funded by The Reece Foundation and delivered by Physics Partners and forms part of the Middlesbrough and Stockton Physics Hub series of twilight sessions.
