Join us for this in-person workshop on Radioactivity led by Liz Nourshargh, Physics Partners Coach and hosted by Vandyke Upper School, Leighton Buzzard.
While the content of this workshop will be most useful to ECTs and non-specialist teachers of Physics, all teachers of Physics are welcome at this session which offers a great opportunity to network with other teachers locally.
Join us to explore ways to teach the topic of Radioactivity. We’ll see how to make this topic relevant to students, and consider what misconceptions they are likely to bring to lessons.
We’ll share ideas for effective modelling for alpha scattering, types of radiation and penetration, and exponential. We’ll see how to scaffold half-life calculations and focus in on language issues that can cause problems in this topic. We’ll use a Geiger counter to detect radiation and consider safe handling of radioactive sources.
Please sign up in advance so that there is enough cake!
This session is fully-funded and delivered by Physics Partners. The session is part of the Leighton Buzzard Physics Hub series of twilight sessions for physics teachers, particularly non-specialists and early career teachers. Technicians are also welcome to attend.
