Join us for this in-person session ‘Introducing Energy at KS3’ led by Neal Gupta, Physics Partners Coach and hosted by Castle Mead Academy, Leicester, LE3 5QT.
Teaching energy stores and transfers is difficult because energy is an abstract, unobservable concept, making it hard for students to grasp its physical nature. Additionally, students’ everyday understanding of phrases like ‘used up’,” and ‘wasted’ often contradicts the definition of energy conservation. This conflict between everyday and scientific language, along with the conceptual nature of energy stores, can make exam questions challenging.
This workshop will focus on strategies to address these difficulties, including practical demonstrations, clear ways to represent energy stores and transfers, and methods for helping students use key terminology accurately in explanation questions.
This face-to-face session is for non-specialist physics teachers and early career teachers. Trainee teachers, technicians and teaching assistants are also welcome.
Physics Partners are delighted to be offering a series of twilight workshops for teachers of Physics in Leicester and the surrounding area.
